Within initiatives focused on the fight against infringements of intellectual property rights and facilitated by the European Commission, the Memorandum of Understanding on Online Advertising and Intellectual Property Rights was signed on 25 June 2018.

The Memorandum was signed by representatives of 28 companies and associations from the advertising sector, among them the Croatian Association of Communications Agencies (HURA).

The Memorandum of Understanding on Online Advertising and Intellectual Property Rights aims to minimise the placement of advertising on websites and mobile applications that infringe copyright or disseminate counterfeit goods, which will also help to curtail the revenues of these websites and applications. The signatories to this voluntary agreement will work together with the European Commission to monitor its implementation and effectiveness, and the results will be assessed after a year upon start date.

The signing of this MoU was announced in the package of measures of the European commission focused on further improving the application and enforcement of intellectual property rights, published by the European Commission in November 2017, after the positive experiences under the Memorandum of Understanding on the sale of counterfeit goods via the internet.

More information related to the Memorandum of Understanding, as well as the text of the document and the full list of signatories is available here.
